What is an MA Convention?


The MA World Convention is the annual recovery and social gathering for all of Marijuana Anonymous. It’s not to be confused with the Conference, which is the fellowship’s business meeting held each May. The Convention includes workshops, keynote speakers, MA meetings, a banquet, dance, and a chance to fellowship with up to 120+ members from across the land. It’s a giant sober party and a great opportunity for growth in recovery and personal connections. The 2020 Convention is being held February 14th – 16th in Los Angeles, CA (District 6).

I’m new to Marijuana Anonymous. I actually haven’t been able to stop smoking – but I’m trying! Can I still go to the convention? Can I go to the Convention if I’m not even sure I’m an addict?


Yes! The Convention is open to all MA members. Our Third Tradition states: “The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop using Marijuana.” Even if you’re still smoking and/or you’re not sure if you’re an addict, you are welcome!


What is the Convention schedule?


Each MA World Convention typically starts around 4pm Friday, and ends around 3pm on Sunday. The fellowship will be notified of updates to the website if/when a schedule is added as we approach the Convention. Also, a detailed schedule will be provided in your registration packet on arrival.


How much does the Convention cost? Are there registration scholarships available?

While the MA World Convention is the fellowship’s largest fundraising opportunity, we also want to ensure it is accessible to as many members as possible. Early Bird full weekend w/Banquet (ends Nov. 1) ($175 & free t-shirt);

Must the hotel booking be purchased separately from Convention registration, and what’s the cost?


Yes, you must book the hotel separately, and standard double occupancy room rates are $109 per night/plus tax. If calling to book then make sure to use booking code “MA Convention” to get the above mentioned group rate; and along the same lines, if booking online make sure to use the special hotel link on our website home page Call Airtel Plaza Hotel toll-free at (877) 939-9268. NOTE: Our discounted rate is available from February 11 – 18, so feel free to stay and hang out! Also, the rate is guaranteed only through January 31st, so please book early!


Will there be rides available from the airport(s)?

  • If flying to/from LAX there is a Shuttle called “FlyAway” that goes to/from a location near the Airtel Plaza Hotel and the hotel will arrange pick up.
  • If you are flying to/from Burbank Airport there is the MetroLink public transportation, or help for a ride otherwise via our fellowship.

What is the cost of parking at the hotel?

Parking February 14th-16th is free for all registrants. Anyone who is registered for the convention can park free for the day, and those with a hotel booking will have complimentary overnight parking throughout the discount period, February 11th-18th.


Aside from hotel and registration, what else might cost money?

Merchandise like t-shirts, etc (this year we are celebrating our 30th Anniversary so there will be fun merch for that); Raffle; Transportation off-site; Saturday dinner (if you’re not joining the banquet). NOTE: all registered hotel guests will receive complimentary breakfast!


Are spouses or partners of members welcome to attend the convention?

Yes, of course!
